Congressional Report

Dear Friends,

This past week, I was in the district taking part in various events and announcements. These included receiving a prestigious award from the Laredo Fire Department, announcing federal funding for Mirando City and Webb County, as well as taking part in Washington Birthday Celebration Association ceremonies.

My staff also participated in several events and meetings, including the Border Patrol Youth of the Month and presenting Congressional Certificates of Recognition to outstanding citizens in our district.

I have also included a video, in Spanish, from the U.S. Census Bureau ensuring that it doesn't matter where you're from, your nationality, your immigration status, or with whom you live, for the 2020 Census, everyone counts.

As always, please contact one of my offices if you need assistance with any federal agency.

Rep. Cuellar Received Coveted White Helmet Award

On Thursday, February 20, I was honored with the prestigious White Helmet Award from the Laredo Fire Department. It is rare for Laredo Fire Department to present this recognition, as it typically only goes to chiefs or citizens who have greatly impacted the well-being of our community. This is a moment I will always remember, and for that, I want to thank the brave men and women who protect our community every day for this recognition. Pictured from left to right is Co-City Manager Robert Eads, Rep. Cuellar, Fire Cheif Steve Landin, and Mayor Pete Saenz.

Rep. Cuellar Announces $1 Million for Mirando City

On Thursday, February 20, I announced $1 million in federal funding for water infrastructure improvements that will secure safe and reliable drinking water for the residents of Mirando City. As a senior member on the Appropriations Committee, I will continue to fund infrastructure projects that enhance our citizens’ well-being. Pictured is Rep. Cuellar with Webb County and City of Mirando officials.

A Historic Celebration for USMCA

On Friday, February 21, I had the honor of hosting a celebration of the USMCA with Kansas City Southern. While on the Southern Belle, in the middle of the International Rail Bridge, I presented gifts to the Mexican President and the Canadian Prime Minister. KCS and I also discussed a transformative infrastructure project that will have direct impact to the community, the state of Texas, and the country as a whole. I am committed to making sure we fully reap the economic benefits of this historic trade agreement by investing in new infrastructure and building new trade partnerships. Pictured is Rep. Cuellar with officials from the U.S., Mexico, Canada, KCS, and Texas Farm Bureau.

International Bridge Ceremony

On Saturday, February 22, I attended WBCA and La Posada's International Bridge Ceremony. This event is a symbolic reminder that the United States and Mexico work best, when we work together. It was an honor to be a part of such a monumental ceremony with Speaker Pelosi, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, Chairwoman of Appropriations Nita Lowey, and all the other elected-officials from both sides of the US-Mexico border. Thank you WBCA and La Posada for bringing us together, in order to celebrate the rich cultures and vibrant communities that make the border a unique and wonderful place to be. Rep. Cuellar Announces $150,000 for Webb County

On Tuesday, February 25, I announced $150,000 in federal funds for the Webb County’s Sheriff Office. These funds, which will also be shared with the District Attorney’s Office, were awarded through the DOJ’s Bureau of Justice Assistance Gulf States Regional Law Enforcement Technology Training and Technical Assistance Initiative; funding will assist with information and intelligence sharing between local law enforcement. As a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, I will continue to ensure law enforcement has the necessary funding so they can effectively and efficiently do their jobs. Pictured from left to right is District Attorney Isidro Alaniz, Rep. Cuellar, and Sheriff Cuellar.

Congressional Certificate in Recognition for Mr. Navarro

On Monday, February 24, my Outreach Coordinator for Starr and Hidalgo Counties, Nichole Hernandez, presented Mr. Rey Navarro with a Congressional Certificate of Recognition. He is the only U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Officer from the State of Texas to respond to the catastrophic events in Australia. Mr. Navarro’s altruistic response provided lifesaving skills to all walks of life in the Australian Bush Fires; his skills among other firefighters will lead to the greater prosperity of our global ecosystem. Border Patrol Youth of the Month Ceremony

On Wednesday, February 19, my Outreach Coordinator for La Salle, Webb, and Zapata Counties, Orlando Ramirez, attended the Border Patrol Youth of the Month Ceremony held in Laredo. At the event, Orlando had the opportunity to present 11 Congressional Certificates of Academic Recognition to students from Laredo for their hard work and achievements in school. Pictured is Orlando Ramirez, other partners and sponsors of the event, and the students being recognized.

U.S. Census Bureau: They Also Count (Spanish)

No matter where you're from, your nationality, your immigration status, or with whom you live, for the 2020 Census, everyone counts.

This video from the U.S. Census Bureau shows that the U.S. Census counts everyone in the United States, regardless of your status. So make sure to do your part and submit your information for the 2020 Census!

Sincerely,
Henry Cuellar
