Dear Friends,

I would like to share the following updates with you from the first week of the August recess period. 


August Grants Tour across TX28

My grants coordinators, Juan Sanchez and Mary Hinojosa, will be traveling across TX28 for the first three weeks of August meeting with city, county, and other officials to discuss the needs of my constituents. My grants team helps individuals, businesses, and organizations apply for loans and grants from federal agencies.  Over the past year, my office has helped cities and towns across my district successfully acquire funds to complete a community center renovation in Cotulla, buy a new fire truck in Jourdanton and Pleasanton, update a water treatment plant in Laredo, and construct a new fire station in Alton, among others. 

The schedule of my grants coordinators will be:

Border Health Conference, August 23rd in Laredo, TX


 
Thirteen days until the 8th Annual Border Health Conference in Laredo!

Less than two weeks to the Border Health Conference, which will be held on August 23rd at La Posada Hotel in Laredo!   This conference, held for the first time in Texas and on the border, will be an opportunity to discuss the unique challenges and opportunities to providing quality healthcare across the border region.

I will be joined by representatives from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Service’s Office of Minority Health and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, Mexican Department of Health, US-Mexico Border Health Commission, Hidalgo County Health Department, City of Laredo Health Department, US Customs and Border Protection, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, Enroll America, Texas Medical Association and others. Also attending will be Rep. Filemon Vela (TX-24) with Rep. Michael Burgess (TX-26) and Rep. Blake Farenthold (TX-27) participating by video message. I encourage doctors, healthcare professionals, and interested citizens across my District and the entire Texas border to attend.

Human Trafficking Resources from the Department of Homeland Security 

The Department of Homeland Security recently launched the Blue Campaign, an effort to raise awareness and combat human trafficking across our country.  I want to make you aware of these resources so you are better protected against the threats of this criminal practice.
