Congressional Report

Dear Friends,

This past week, I've been traveling our district, speaking with constituents and conducting a series of events; these included the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new overpass at US 59 and IH 35, announcing over $10 million in federal housing grants for Bexar County, securing $1.3 million in federal funding for Atascosa Health Center, and revealing the new partnership between the U.S. Army and Laredo hospitals.

My staff also participated in several events and meetings, including Neighborhood Office Hours, Small Business Administration events, ribbon-cuttings and more.

I have also included a video from the Census Bureau explaining the upcoming 2020 Census.

As always, please contact one of my offices if you need assistance with any federal agency.

Rep. Cuellar Announces Historic Deal Between U.S. Army and Laredo Hospitals To Provide Trauma Care

On Thursday, January 23, I announced a historic partnership between the U.S. Army, Laredo Medical Center and Doctors Hospital. I secured emergency trauma care for the people of Laredo and the surrounding areas by amending restrictive language in the 2019 National Defense Authorization Act. This agreement will allow about 20 medics, and a variety of other medical specialties from all three Services, the opportunity to train alongside their civilian counterparts for a two-week rotation every quarter at LMC and Doctors Hospital. The U.S. Army plans to begin training in Laredo in the summer of 2020. Pictured is Rep. Cuellar with State Representative Tracy King, Mayor Pete Saenz, Laredo Medical Center CEO Enrique Gallegos, Doctor Hospital COO’s Jorge Leal and Raymond Ramos, and doctors and staff from LMC and Doctors Hospital.

Rep. Cuellar Announces $10 Million in Federal Funding for Housing Resources in Bexar County

On Wednesday, January 22, I announced over $10 million in federal funding for housing resources in the San Antonio/Bexar County area. Local organizations received $9,437,007 through the Continuum of Care (CoC) Program, Housing Authority of Bexar County (HABC) received $449,784 in Mainstream Vouchers and $192,149 through the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program, and lastly, San Antonio Housing Authority (SAHA) received $381,981 in Mainstream Vouchers and $936,002 through the FSS program. Pictured from left to right is Robert Wehrmeyer of HABC, Tammy Trevino, Executive Director of HABC, Leslie Ann Bradley, HUD Deputy Regional Administrator Region VI, Rep. Cuellar, and David Nisivoccia, CEO and President of SAHA.

Rep. Cuellar Secures $1.3 Million in Federal Funding for Atascosa Health Center

On Wednesday, January 22, I announced $1,381,258 in federal funds for the Atascosa Health Center (AHC). These funds, awarded through the Department of Health and Human Services Health Cluster Center funding program, will help AHC provide critical health care services to communities in Atascosa, Wilson, and McMullen Counties. Rep. Cuellar Secures Over $18 Million in Federal Funding for New Overpass in Laredo

On Tuesday, January 21, I attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new overpass at US 59 and IH 35. This was a 25-month project that cost a total of $25,800,849.36, and I fought to secure 80% of that in federal funds ($18,737,640.47). This project expands mainlanes, alleviates congestion by ridding of traffic bottlenecks, and allows swifter trade between the US-Mexico border. Pictured is Rep. Cuellar, with Mayor Pete Saenz, State Representative Tracy King, State Senator Judith Zaffirini, the Honorable Tano Tijerina, David Salazar, Interim Co-City Manager Robert Eads, and members of Texas Department of Transportation.
