EXPO TU VIDA FAIR IDEAL STOP FOR LATEST INFO ON SENIORS
Congressman Henry Cuellar to bring latest news for seniors at Chamber event

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Miguel A. Conchas, President/CEO of the Laredo Chamber of Commerce, announced today that the group has joined hands with the City of Laredo to host an informational fair for senior citizens.  Expo Tu Vida, as the fair is called, is scheduled for Friday, September 5, 2008, at the Laredo Civic Center.  Congressman Henry Cuellar (D- Dist. 28), a strong supporter of Social Security and tax relief, endorsed the event wholeheartedly and, in fact, accepted to serve as Honorary Co-Chair during the planning process.  His office has assisted in bringing together representatives from federal agencies to be available to answer questions regarding matters of importance to citizens over 50.

States Conchas, “We often think that matters of social security, retirement, and care for the elderly don’t apply to us, since we haven’t reached that stage. But, most families have parents or grandparents that may need these questions answered.  Expo Tu Vida, is not only meant for seniors, but for those who live or care for seniors.”

Expo Tu Vida will include both an exhibit area and a stage area for seminars and other pertinent information.  The fair will open at 9:00 a.m., but the program will kick off at 10:00 a.m. with an official ribbon cutting ceremony to be followed by an address from Congressman Cuellar.  The program will run throughout the late morning with presentations from different agencies.  In addition, the planners, have included other topics of general interest, such as food preparation and exercise tips.  A highlight of the event will be a fashion show sponsored by J.C. Penney, specifically designed for seniors.  That is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

Exhibitors at the fair include:  Social Security Administration, IRS, representatives from Medicare and Medicaid, Doctors Hospital (offering blood draws, hypertension and respiratory testing),  the Doctors Hospital Sleep Center and Cancer Center, Laredo Specialty Hospital, Laredo Medical Center, American Diabetes Association, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Gulf Prosthetics & Orthotics, The Medicine Shoppe, The Rock Gym, Shah Eye Center, and many others.
