Dear Friends of the 28th District of Texas:
Hunger is an unfortunate reality that millions of Americans face each year.
In 2010, 48.8 million people in the United States lived in food insecure households, out of which 16.2 million were children. (Source: U.S. Census)
In Texas, more than 4 million people lived in food insecure households, out of which nearly 2 million are children. (Source: Feeding America)
While these figures are disheartening, the millions of Americans who are in need are not alone.
Organizations such as Feeding America and locally, the South Texas Food Bank, the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley, and the San Antonio Food Bank, can help.
They offer invaluable programs such as the Kids Café, which provides healthy and balanced meals for children afterschool. They also have programs tailored to help families in need apply for SNAP benefits (food stamps), and outreach for veterans and senior citizens.
These food banks are also always looking for donations and volunteers. To learn how you too can contribute towards ending hunger in America, please contact your local food bank service.
As your representative in Congress, I am always ready to support initiatives that will help fund these programs that help so many families in need.
Sincerely,

Congressman Henry Cuellar
