Today, Congressman Henry Cuellar, Ph.D. (TX-28) celebrated the groundbreaking of the new Duval County Emergency Operations Center (EOC). The EOC was made possible by $2,965,800 in Community Project Funding secured by the Congressman in FY23.

“When disaster strikes, it’s important that our first responders have proper facilities and accommodations to respond effectively. The new Emergency Operations Center will ensure faster response times and higher quality of service to Duval County residents,” said Dr. Cuellar. “I will continue to fight in Congress to ensure Duval County has the resources we need to keep our community safe. Thank you to Duval County Judge Arnoldo Cantu, the Duval County Commissioners, and Duval County Sheriff Romeo R. Ramirez for working with me to deliver for South Texas.”

The state-of-the-art EOC will house Duval County’s fire department, first responders, and emergency services, enabling all county department heads to work together during a major disaster for proper and efficient Incident Command System (ICS) response planning. The EOC will also serve as a regional facility for the Duval County Sheriff, the primary office for the Texas Department of Public Safety, and provide office space for the County Emergency Management Coordinator, U.S. Border Patrol, and fire and emergency medical services.

Dr. Cuellar has fought to deliver for Duval County. Earlier this year, he announced $200,000 in federal grant funding for border security in Duval County. In the FY24 government funding bills, he secured $1,000,000 in Community Project Funding for improvements to Duval County’s community centers.
