Rep. Cuellar Announces $59,004 in Federal Funding for Laredo’s Law Enforcement

Funds will be used to ensure Police Department has resources and personnel to keep our community safe

Laredo, TX—Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) announced $59,004 in federal funding for City of Laredo’s Police Department. These funds, allocated through the Department of Justice’s Byrne Justice Assistance Grants (JAG), will be used to ensure our law enforcement has the tools, programs, personnel and resources necessary to protect and serve the region.

“When it comes to the safety of our community, we must be smart and prepared,” said Congressman Cuellar. “This federal investment will help ensure that our local law enforcement is able to continue protecting our families, friends and neighbors.”

“As a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, I will continue to ensure our law enforcement officers have the necessary funding so they can do their jobs safely and effectively. I want to thank Mayor Pete Saenz, City Manager Robert Eads, City Council, Chief of Police Claudio Trevino and the rest of their staff for their tireless work in protecting our residents.”

Grant funding can be used for local initiatives, technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support and information systems for criminal justice for any one or more of the following areas: 1) law enforcement programs; 2) prosecution and court programs; 3) prevention and education programs; 4) corrections and community corrections programs; 5) drug treatment programs and 6) planning, evaluation and technology improvement programs.
