Pleasanton, TX-- Congressman Henry Cuellar (TX-28) announced $72,034 in federal funding for the Atascosa Health Center’s efforts  to combat the coronavirus pandemic. This funding, awarded through the Department of Health and Human Services, will be used to meet evolving needs for Atascosa Health Center during the COVID-19 pandemic, including expanding testing, purchasing supplies and providing safety education.

“Local health centers are critical in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic,” Congressman Cuellar said. “During this national emergency, we cannot afford for our healthcare facilities to lack the resources and funding they need. This federal investment will be used to support Atascosa Health Center and their efforts to respond aggressively to the outbreak, to prevent sick patients from overwhelming hospitals, and overall, to protect our community.”

“As a senior Appropriator, I am committed to providing long-term and robust funding to our community health centers so they can continue to be on the frontlines of this crisis and meet the needs of our nation’s most vulnerable communities. I would like to thank Monty Small, CEO of Atascosa Health Center, and the rest of his staff for their dedication to providing care during this unprecedented public health crisis.”

As a senior member of the Appropriations Committee, Congressman Cuellar helped secure $100 million for health centers funded by Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) in the first COVID-19 spending package. HRSA-funded health centers may use the awards to address screening and testing needs, acquire medical supplies and boost telehealth capacity in response to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.
