Laredo International Airport to have first Mexican customs pre-clearance facility in US

LAREDO, TEXAS (KGNS) - The first Mexican customs pre-clearance facility, opens for operation at the Laredo International Airport.

City and state officials are unveiling the facility on Thursday.

The Mexican customs facility is unique in that no other airport outside of Mexico is approved by the Mexican government, to pre-inspect Mexico-bound air cargo.

It's also historic, because there's nowhere else, where two countries share one building at an airport to house two customs agencies.

"This is something that Mexico will benefit from a bit of their cargo comes in on planes will stop here, clear customs here and they will be on their way to Mexico", said representative Richard Raymond.

The city of Laredo invested three point three million dollars in construction costs to build the facility.
