Cuellar Reports

Congressman Cuellar Offers Condolences to Loved Ones of Carlos Marin and Flight Passengers

Washington, September 18, 2008 | Eddie Zavala ((956) 725-0639)

Congressman Henry Cuellar issues the following statement on the death of Carlos Marin, Commissioner of the International Boundary and Water Commission, and other officials:

"I am deeply saddened by the sudden death of Carlos Marin, his Mexican Counterpart Arturo Herrera, Jake Brisbin, Jr., Executive Director of the Rio Grande Council of Governments, and pilot Matthew Peter Juneau.

"Carlos was a friend to all who knew him and was a person who truly cared about the well-being of residents along the U.S.-Mexico border. He was a true public servant. I had the opportunity to first work with Carlos on a sewer treatment plant project in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, in the early 1990s, and most recently with the levee situation in the Rio Grande Valley and a low level weir project that we were about to embark with the City of Laredo. His positive outlook even in the most difficult of situations played a big role in the outcome of all projects he commanded.

"My heartfelt condolences go out to the family and friends of those lost."
